What to do in Phuket with one day

Posted by: vanalli In: Uncategorized

Finally you have decided to spend a holiday in Phuket, and you have 24hrs a day. How are you going to do there? You may find plenty of options for this. First find a place for you to reside at and if you are running out of time then you will have to cover all the hot spots on island.

You can find many places of curiosity here, it may be little tough to find a guesthouse in the famous part of the island town Patong as it is crowdy, but if you try you can as you are aiming at a short trip. This place may be handy, so that you can cover many interesting places over Patong. Now set to go around the island. Hiring a motorcycle for rent might be the coolest way for covering the entire island. Make sure that you buy a road map for this purpose. It’s of course very economical too. Go on for a ride on the roads of Patong on hiring a motorcycle.

Start your trip by heading towards the famous temple on the island Wat Chanlong at Chalong. Are you a photo freak? Then you can make the best of your photos here at Chalong on the top of 60-meter-tall chedi. The next hot spot handy from Chalong is Big Buddha statue on the large hill which may take an hour from there.

The place seems to be very scenic and you have flavor of romance mixed with the feel. Now make your move towards the Promthep Cape which is the best place on the island to watch the sun setting down in the evening. Make sure that you get there before the sun hides. You will be awestruck by the scenic beauty there, and of course Promthep Cape is less crowded.

You may be hungry by this time travelling throughout the day and it’s the time to check out the Thai food now. You will be tricked by the magical Natural Restaurant in Phuket Town (Soi Phutorn, off Rasada Road Circle, turn left at Chinese shrine). Now it’s the moment to taste the amazing night life on the island. As you are having only one night you may find your desire to the local pub KorTorMor Chana Charoen Rd which will astonishingly draws your attention to spend time there.

Of course it’s crowded much at the weekends. Wanna like to have a Phuket beer late night? Then your choice may be James Garden om Poonopl Rd soi 1. Have a good sleep tonight and start the next day with a good Thai breakfast over the streets, find a vendor of your choice among the number of hawkers there.

You will have a great joy for the whole day spent there, and you might be left with very famous beaches to cover. 24 hours is just not sufficient to cover the entire island.

Visiting Coconut Island near Phuket

Posted by: vanalli In: General Phuket

Phuket is such a mystic place that even after what it seems like a thorough exploration, there are few more unexplored hot spots that many tourists let pass. One must definitely venture to travel around the isolated beaches and concealed islands. You might have to put up more effort to locate such places, however, the joy and pleasure on reaching the place is inexplicable and worth the effort.

One such concealed island is the Koh Mahprao, better known as Coconut Island. It is located off the east coast of Phuket. There is no difficulty, whatsoever, to reach this island, which is deprived of tourism, but has several isolated beaches. An intriguing fact about the island, which also is the main reason for the lack of tourism, is that there are no proper electricity arrangements on the island. The inhabitants depend upon the solar electricity for their power needs.

You will not find any ostentatious restaurants or cozy bars or gaudy nightclubs on this island. So, you must not think high about finding a comfortable sea facing resort or hotel for your stay here. The accommodation could be found only by becoming a paying guest of any of the residents of the island. There are more than 150 families who are friendly and humble enough to let you stay over, provided you strike a good deal with them.

The way to reach the island is also very exciting. In order to reach the island, one must get a tuk-tuk, the local name for an auto-rickshaw, from Phuket Town and move to Laem Hin Pier, which is about a fifteen minutes drive. At Pier, you must catch a longtail boat to reach the coconut island. It would cost about 15 Baht per head. At the island, you may rent or hire a motorcycle to reach the Long Beach.

The Long Beach is not long at all; it is an exquisite, hush-hush beach where one can bathe in the sun, swim in the sea and sink in the beautiful, romantic and panoramic outlook. You are bound to be smitten by the place and might want to stay for a day. So, it is advisable to carry sufficient amount of drinks with you.

If you do happen to rent a motorcycle, or a bicycle, you should go for a drive all around the island. You might find a few people who may give you a stare or two; nevertheless, you must be polite and courteous to all the residents, as they are not used to a lot of tourists on their island.

All in all, if you are visiting Phuket and you want to have a real experience of the right way to live on an island, then a visit to the Coconut Island is a must.

Getting by in Phuket on a tight budget

Posted by: vanalli In: General Phuket

Due to the speedy growth of the population and development in Phuket, it gave a boom to prices over there making it a bit tough for backpackers who move around the places. Phuket used to be very economical in the earlier days. Don’t worry, there are some ways to make a your trip successful without a break through in budget.

Many lavish resorts have born on this island in very few days making the accommodation here a bit costlier. Health spas have also increased in huge number these days which are costlier to stay. You can a hire a bed for yourself paying few baht a night at guest houses. You should be choosy in selecting a decent Phuket guesthouse. You will find these also a bit costlier in most famous part of the island- Patong which is a busy place with street vendors and crowd, but you still can get a economical guest house if you roam around the place.

The backpackers can choose to stay in Kata and Karon which is a little less crowded than Patong. You can find some great deals for accommodation over there for lesser bucks. Once you find your place to stay, the next step will be to find good food place. It is as simple as that you will find in the streets. You can eat your belly full by spending less than 200 bath for the whole day if you select Thai street food as your choice, which contains rice and noodles as the main course of food. Don’t hesitate to experiment, have the food of your choice at the street hawkers by which you would be saving 10 times the cost you pay in a restaurant.

After having your food set up to go around the island. Transportation is one of the major problems in Phuket. You cannot find metered taxies around the island and they can be just found in the premises of airport only. Even though you find one taxi you may be asked to pay more amount than the actual fare. If it is out of your budget then you may choose tuk-tuks which are reasonably priced. Public transport is available only during the day time and not in nights. One more alternative is hiring a bike for several bahts a day for which you have to carry a license and a road map which helps you to find the way.

Getting the right visa for Phuket

Posted by: vanalli In: General Phuket

One travelling to any other country except his home country is expected to carry correct visa documents with him or her, same for Thailand too. It’s noteworthy to carry originals with you for not getting any troubles with the immigration officials. Just forget about all the stories that you heard about the illegal transactions or bribes.

One can reach Phuket via airways and seaways. If you fly you will be given a tourist permit of 30 days and 15 days via other modes of transport (not possible to Phuket) as per the new laws. And mind you its only tourist visa and one can’t stay for working with that visa. Some officers will monitor on the tourists and their visa dates so that no tourist will stay longer than his prescribed time. You might be annoyed if you are not well planned, when you are checked with your documents while on the go only in the plane.

If you are well planned then it’s possible for you to get a cheap air fare in advance for the return journey too. If you are much eager to spend a lot many holidays of yours at phuket then it is suggestible for you to purchase the tourist visa at Thai consulate office outside Thailand from which you get a 60 day visa limit that can be extended 30 more days at immigration office, adding up a whole some of 90 days permit which is quiet good than the 30 day usual permit.

Do keep in mind that is also the tourist ones and you change it to a non-immigrant visa. A non-immigrant visa can be obtained from a Thai consular office out side the country.

As per the new immigration laws of the Thai government one can not stay for more than 90 consecutive days among the progressive 180 days, i.e after you complete 90 days of your tour in Phuket you have to leave, and you can not reenter into phuket for 90 more days.

You can go again there after 90 days only. To make it more understandable, if you go to Phuket in January of the year and stay up to march, you will have to leave the country at the end of march and you can only go enter again there only after completion of the month June. Better you return or stay up to the dates of visa, and avoid the problems caused by the police or immigration department.

Kamala Beach in Phuket

Posted by: vanalli In: General Phuket

Kamala beach lies in the north of bustling city of Patong, Phuket. It is a relaxed and sandy place with a quiet environment. Its hiding inside forested hills, a fishing village and a well enclosed bay makes it one of the loveliest places in Phuket.

Countless visitors from retired people to nature and peace loving travelers have been visiting here as a preferred spot. Their staying priorities have been small and beautiful hotels, rented apartments and villas which are scattered in and around the village. A number of luxury villas have been developed in the southern suburbs which provide lavish views of Kamala Bay when you travel on the winding road alongside.

Kamala beach is a natural beauty in Phuket which makes the visitors possessive enough that in order to personalize the green and beauty, they tend to hide from others, in fear of mass soil of the virgin beauty of this natural spot.

Dining experience is as wonderful as any other place but what makes it more natural is the casual approach offering the tastiest seafood along with all the international cuisines. Traditional artificial hotel environment is absent, in replacement of more natural and casual environment. When you come from Patong via the crested hill, you will find small Thai shacks offering Issan food behind the most wonderful scenic background. Nothing can beat the experience of dining with sticky rice, grilled chicken and papaya salad of Issan food with sun setting in front of you in this heavenly scene.

While reaching down the hill from Patong, turn to the left along the southern end of bay and you will see Rockfish sign, a small but most delicious dining experience possible in Kamala. With class of soothing music, you can experience here, the dining of a lifetime.

The menu is eclectic and wine list is excellent, even by Phuket standards, with Thursday live bands and Sunday DJs to completely enjoy the mountain and ocean. You like pizza then move a forward ahead on the same road and find The Gourmet Pizza Restaurant, for a wonderfully authentic pizza in a most natural setting.

Travel ahead a little more on the road from south to north, to find more verities of various restaurants offering more cuisines including American, Argentinian or Thai foods. For good selection of wines and imported meats, Argentina Steakhouse is the right place for you, with bonus of live jazz music playing. And if you really eat a lot, try Boomer’s Grill offering very delicious Tex-Mex and barbeque ribs. For fair pricing, Emerald Café is better to choose. Kamala Coffee House is great for breakfast and quick lunch. Enjoy them with nice ocean view from breezy terrace.

The village is famous for fishermen. You can watch local fishermen fishing in the evening at the seaside. After this oceanic evening, you can enjoy a real nightlife in Kamala at Phulet FantaSea. And then watch a live Thai extravaganza with Thai dancing, lights and sounds, pyrotechnics, acrobatics and then the animal show of tigers, elephants and many other animals.

And remember, for 4 consecutive years from 2000 to 2003, Phuket FantaSea was awarded ‘Best Attraction’ in Thailand by Tourism Authority of Thailand.
